Basil

History

Arrived in Europe via the spice route, basil is native to Africa and India where it is widely used both in cooking and in traditional medicine. Hindus consider it a sacred plant and several varieties are grown in India.

A Special One

It has a sweet and spicy, unmistakable scent. Basil is, for Italians, synonymous with Mediterranean cuisine, let's think of the famous Genoese pesto or even a simple tomato sauce that becomes special with a few leaves of fresh basil.

From us

In the "pane frattau", the exquisite typical dish of Nuoro, it must never be missing.
