Il Tea Tree

History

Il suo nome botanico è “melaleuca alternifolia”. Pare che sia diventato albero del tè, quando il Capitano Cook nel 1770, arrivato in Australia, vide che i locali facevano una bevanda dalle foglie di una pianta a lui sconosciuta. Tanto bastò per un inglese chiamare quella pianta Tea Tree o albero del tè!

Dall'Australia al Mediterraneo

E’ una pianta che si è adattata molto bene in Sardegna, come l’eucalipto, e possiamo dire che è ormai naturalizzata. Possiamo trovare piante anche grandi e numerose allo stato spontaneo, soprattutto lungo le coste.

La materia che distilliamo per ottenere l’olio essenziale e l’idrolato, provviene da piante che si trovano in provincia di Oristano molto vicino al mare.
